Out of the top 15 countries most travelled to by Canadians in 2026 almost half of them are countries in Europe. Now that Canadians are visiting the US less and less more visits to Europe and other parts of the world by Canadians are sure to increase. If you are travelling to Europe soon here is my recommendation of the Best eSIM for Canadians travelling to Europe.

Why Use and eSIM
Many Canadian phone plans these days feature international plans for a large daily fee. If you need to be connected by phone for calls for work or business that might be the best option for you. However if you are just travelling and going on vacation, long term travelling or working abroad then an eSIM is more likely your best option and will definitely save you money.
Other great reasons to choose an eSIM over your phone carrier’s international plan is that you will also avoid surprising and accidental roaming fees. Roaming fees are a key thing to avoid as they can be costly and if you are traveling to multiple countries or near boarders they can definitely accidentally happen. Years ago my phone roamed in Iceland and that was a HUGE phone bill to accidentally come home to that I don’t want to experience again.
Another benefit of using an eSIM is that even though you can’t make normal calls with them you can still make phone calls many other ways. Great options for making calls when you only have data is using Whatsapp, Facetime (for iPhone users), and Facebook.
Which eSIM Company Should you Use?
One of the best eSIMs that will cover you around the world in my opinion is Holafly eSIMs. Not only does Holafly have eSIMs for over 200 destinations but you can buy unlimited data as well. Another of it’s KEY features is that it has FREE data. Yes, you have to pay for a plan per country or region but their new always on feature gives you 1GB of FREE DATA every month.
Arriving in a new destination and forgot to buy your next eSIM ahead of time? No worry! Holafly’s Always On extra 1GB of data will get you connected instantly to buy your next eSIM package. Flight delayed and running out of your eSIM package? No worry, you have an extra 1GB of free data built right in! Stuck at the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe and can’t find wifi? It’s happened to me! The always on back up data has your back!
The Always On extra 1GB of data currently works in 150 destinations to save you when you might need it most. The best part, it full refreshes every month.
Who are eSIMs Great for?
Whether you only travel once or twice a year, you are going on a year long back packing trip, are taking a European Cruise or looking to work abroad, eSIMs are great for all kinds of travellers. Whether your trip is a week long or 6 months there are many benefits for every kind of traveller. Holafly offers short term daily plans, monthly plans and even yearly fans. The best part is that they have 24/7 customer support and you can cancel whenever you want with very flexible options.
Why is Holafly the best eSIM for Canadians travelling through Europe?
One of the best reasons that Holafly should be the eSIM of choice for Canadians travelling through Europe is because often when flying from Canada you have to make several stops to get to your destination in Europe. If you are flying from Halifax to Prague, you probably first have to stop in Frankfurt. With a Holalfy European package eSIM your eSIM will work in up to 35 European countries. That way no matter how long your layover is in Germany on your way to the Czech Republic, your phone will still be working for you.
The same idea goes for if you are flying from Vancouver to Vienna, you might have to make a stop in London first. Or if you are flying from Toronto to Krakow, Poland you might have you stop in Paris first on the way, etc. This is also great if you are taking the train through Europe to get around, and looking to visit multiple countries across the continent.
