This past year (2012) has been one of the craziest of my life. I traveled more than I have in any other year in my life, flying on 66+ airplanes, 3 helicopters, visiting 5 continents, and traveling to Asia for the first time. This year has had a lot of ups but a few downs mixed in as well for good measure.
2012 was the year I bruised my tail bone in Cancun (it still hurts exactly 6 months later as I sit here writing this post). Pulled a ligament in my knee in Australia. I broke my ankle while working (which I took as a sign to stop working). I got sick a few times while on the road. Not all of my travel plans went according to plan. Delayed flights left me sleeping on a bench overnight in an airport, confusion with train schedules left me 130 euros poorer while I held on to my purse for dear life on a sketchy over night train from Venice to Paris. Just to name a few downs.
However there were many ups. Some of my favourite things that I did this year include visiting South Africa, going on Safari, visiting Asia for the first time ever and seeing Komodo Dragons, going to Borneo and seeing wild Orangutans, holding Sloths in Costa Rica, returning to Australia for the 7th time, hanging out with great friends around the world, making new friends and finally putting faces to avatars and twitter handles. I also flew in a helicopter for the first time ever and that same experience was also the first time I was ever surprised with a helicopter flight which happened in South Africa. I went on a couple epic train journeys like the Ghan in Australia and the Blue Train in South Africa. Ok, almost everything I did I loved.
It was also a great year for myself focusing more on my blogging. I launched www.TheTasteOfTravel.com with great success, I started a new venture with some friends and I began blogging for G Adventures.
Basically 2012 was the best year of my life so far and I am so excited for 2013 and the potential it holds. Hopefully our paths will cross as well (or again) this year and I wish you all the very best for 2013.
Check out my video that shows 2012 as I saw it the best:
*notes:
I forgot to mention Colorado in the video
I do own more than 3 shirts, after watching this video that might be hard to believe…

January 3, 2013 at 5:53 pmThis is absolutely fabulous! I’m so impressed by how many places you were able to see in one year. I just got back from the first part of a RTW adventure that started with sailing in Mexico (was also in Mazatlan) and will be headed to Central and South America, parts of Africa, the Himalayas, and quite possibly other parts of Asia. Very excited to follow your lead and example–keep up the awesome work! :)
