Tom Ka Gai Soup – Daily Food Photo

Photo and post by Kristin Addis of

This Tom Ka Gai soup from a nondescript, open-air, street side restaurant in Khao Lak, Thailand, has an interesting appearance and an amazing flavor.  It is made with coconut milk, lemon grass, onion, lime, juice, mushroom, tomato, and chicken.  Available all over southern Thailand, Tom Ka Gai is the perfect evening meal.  It is often accompanied by white rice, which I would suggest submerging in the delicious broth.
I returned to this little family-run, nameless joint five out of my five days in Khao Lak to have this soup.  The cost each time, with soda water and fresh fruit, was the equivalent of $3.
What do you think?  Would you try Tom Ka Gai?
