#FridayFoodPhoto – Ice Cream Dumplings

You heard that right people “Ice Cream Dumplings“!

Yes they were GLORIOUS!

A couple weeks ago in Sydney, Australia I went on a Gourmet Food Tour with Ultimately Sydney through the South of the city and our last stop was at the Prince Albert Hotel in Surrey Hills to a small restaurant called “Bamboo Dumpling Bar“. Not only did we taste delicious dumplings, like pork and chivePork and prawn shu mei and  Prawn har gow but we had what I think is the Pièce de résistance the Ice Cream Dumplings.

I’m not sure what the dumpling casing was made from but it was a sweet version of the typical dumpling and inside was vanilla ice cream. The outside had been rolled in icing sugar and the whole thing was very simple yet so delicious.

I actually went back on two different occasions to get the Ice Cream Dumplings again and the first time they were sold out so I had a chocolate dumpling instead, not so awesome but still good. And the second time they were closed. I guess thats my fault for not checking when they were open. I don’t know where else you can get these but I think I may be making another trip t Australia soon just to have some more.

Have you ever tried an Ice Cream Dumpling?

I never tried ice cream dumplings before but after reading your post I absolutely want to! Have you ever tried dumplings filled with special chocolate from austria, called “Morzartkugel”? Its chocolate with marzipan, pistachio and nougat. Tastes like heaven!

@person: I think it’s somewhat similar to mochi ice cream, I have seen that before, but still different. :)

Sometimes a particular taste sensation only comes along once in a lifetime. You can never recreate it however hard you try.
