#FridayFoodPhotos – Australian Potato Wedges with Sour Cream and Sweet Chilli Sauce

The first time I visited Australia I ordered these a bit quizzically at a bar and I instantly fell in love. Potato wedges with sour cream and sweet chilli sauce. The sour cream part wasn’t so weird of course because that is an often condiment to the baked potato but sweet chilli sauce…. interesting.

Mixed together they are a magical combination and a combination that I have never seen mixed together before coming to Australia. It doesn’t really seem like an “Australian specific” dish or not at least one that you could easily assume but it is and its delightful! (of course washed down with a nice Aussie brew :)  )

Have you ever had potato wedges with sour cream and sweet chilli sauce? What other crazy things do you like putting on your wedges / french fries?

They are indeed an Australian food! They have been popular for a long time in Aus, and came about through the mix of cuisines that come with the highly multicultural Australian population. This is especially true with the influence from many asian foods, with the sweet chilli sauce in this dish being a very good example.
As an Aussie, they are one of my pub favourites too!

Oh man, these are the #1 food I miss most while I’m abroad. They were the last food I ate before having to give up solids for a week after getting my wisdom teeth out, haha.

Seasoned wedges only cost $2 at the supermarkets for 1 kg. I actually came across this post trying to find the genius who first thought of the idea but I’ve had no luck. They’re also beautiful if you add mozzarella cheese and bacon.

I’m from Australia and these are very common I love them could have them as a late night snack every night. We can get a 1kg bag of season wedges from any supermarket and you fry them and add sweet chilli sauce and sour cream, if you don’t have them in Canada they’re very easy to make at home even with ordinary potatoes. They take 20min to cook. I am amazed it’s an Australian thing cause as far as I knew we weren’t known for any good food!

These were the best discovery when I was in Oz – it was 7 years ago and I still miss them! Although they were single handedly responsible for me gaining 5 lbs during my trip!
SO delicious – I wish you could get them at pubs in Canada! That and a hamburger with beetroot and pineapple….yum!

These are the absolute best! One of my favourite food items from Australia. If you make it to Byron Bay (which I’m sure you will) try them at the Beach Hotel! The best I had in Oz. And I had them a lot!!
