My recent trip to Cancun to celebrate the lovely @candicewalsh ‘s 40th birthday!

We stayed at the @riuhotels Dunamar about an hour from the Cancun airport outside of the hotel zone across the water from Isla Mujeres.

My first all inclusive vacation and proper vacation in a lonnnnng time. It was a big resort and family friendly but somehow the four pools never seemed overloaded. There was a big water park area for the kids too with water slides. The property was of course also on the beach and the sargassum seaweed wasn’t too bad.

The hotel had four al La cartes and a big buffet. I was enjoying the food up until the night of our 5th day…. when I couldn’t keep it down any more… 😳

At least I wasn’t the only one to get sick out of the group of like 30 of us 😂

There was daily entertainment, the drinks were always flowing and it was a nice resort! I’d probably chose a smaller one for my next all inclusive though. Less germs, less people, more care with the food…. lol

We also took a catamaran day trip to Isla Mujeres. It was nice to get out on the water and to get off the resort for a bit.

My tan is already fading though 😭

2026 is the new 2016. Where was I in 2016?! EVER

2026 is the new 2016.

Where was I in 2016?! EVERYWHERE. My biggest year of travel to date. I visited 4 continents (including Europe a few times) and took at least 65 flights, numerous trains, buses, taxis, Ubers and ferries. I visited at least 8 countries and 6 US states.

2016 started with a bang literally as I celebrated the New Year in Edinburgh for their Hogmanay festivities before road tripping to the Isle of Sky. Then I was back to London before heading off to Rwanda to go trekking to see the Mountain Gorillas. A truly formative trip.

Following that I was off to Chicago in a March for St. Patrick’s day and then I visited Oahu for the first time and ate tasty molasadas. Mmmm. Following Hawaii I headed to New Orleabs and then did a road trip around Louisiana with @vickyflipflop who had also been in Scotland with me and was the reason I got to go to Rwanda. ❤️🦍

Somewhere in there I managed a trip to NYC to see @adventurouskate and wait in line for viral milkshakes.

In May I was off to Bordeaux, France with my mom on a Viking River Cruise through the wine region. We hunted for truffles before heading home to celebrate the McLobster (RIP). Then I was off to the Twin Cities in Minnesota to speak at a TBEX about Snapchat!

I was home to celebrate my birthday then I was off to Philadelphia and then Anaheim for my first Vidcon!

I was home in Nova Scotia for the summer (I think) then in the fall I was in London for SnapHappen, the world’s first Snapchat conference. Then back to the US for a trip to Universal Orlando as an official part of their Blog Squad. Following that I was back to Europe in Germany speaking at another conference about Snapchat and hanging out with baby @captainandclark .

From there I flew to the Philippines to speak at TBEX there. THEN all the way back to Europe to visit Portugal for the first time visiting Lisbon and Sintra. After that I was off to Prague for fun and then London for WTM again with Vicky!

Typing it all out it seems like an exhausting year. I’m not sure if I could do all of that travel now (I sound so old!). But I remember so much from that year and glad I got to experience it.

On an adventure through Krakow, Poland with @adventurouskate !

A new country for me! We took the Leo train direct from Prague and arrived in style in first class. We loved exploring Krakow, eating tons of pierogis, Paczki and celebrating my birthday!!

If you have been considering visiting Poland, I highly recommend Krakow! It gave me similar vibes as Prague except they might speak a little bit less English here. But huge thanks to all of the service people we spoke with that did speak English for us! We had no problem navigating the city at all.

More from my time in Qatar in November!

This was my fourth Middle Eastern country that I’ve visited. (Previously have been to Jordan, P*lestine and Isr*el.) I’ve been hesitant of visiting the Middle East each time, not sure why but I suppose fear of the unknown. However I have loved each visit, all of the delicious food, incredible sites, lovely people I’ve met, history I’ve learned and in Qatar the LUXURY!

From unique buildings and art old and new, to incredible food, lovely pools, places to relax and more. If you have the budget for it I definitely recommend a visit. Also don’t forget to enjoy ALL of the delicious chocolate covered dates you can find. Yum! 🥰
