This weeks Favorite Film Friday #035 is a gorgeous view of Italy off the beaten path. Made by Matthew Brown who actually won the grand prize at a competition for the tourism board that he made this for and after you watch it you will know exactly why.
If you have seen an awesome travel video recently or have made your own and you would like to see it featured here on Favorite Film Friday please share it with me! Also follow the hashtag #FriTravelVids each week on twitter to see some of the newest and greatest travel videos online.
As many of you might know I am an ambassador “Noffbassador” for the Nomading Film Festival and every time I travel somewhere they give me mini video assignments that I must accomplish. While in the UK and other parts of Europe in November I was given the task to film some Welsh accents, visit Charles Dariwin and Issac Newton’s graves at Westminister Abbey. However I soon found out you are not allowed to film in the Abbey and I never met anyone with a heavy Welsh accent while in Wales.
I failed my Noffbassador Assignment
But in true Noffbassador form I made a video anyway! Mostly consisting of me not doing the assignment and pretty video from my trip. Hopefully you will enjoy and Assignment #4 won’t be as difficult.
Engage. Explore. Record. – If you are in Portland, Oregon this weekend check out the Noff Winter Recess where they will be screening the films from June’s festival as well as an exciting video by Bassam from his trip to Everest Base Camp!
You have until April 30th to submit your own travel video Noff, so hit recording and start creating!
No I am not taking the leap into Podcasting myself… yet. It actually seems a bit like going backwards in technology for me to do that from where I am now, but it might be something I consider in the future. Instead I am sharing with you my second ever PodCast interview (the first was a few brief moments in Vancouver at TBEX with Gary Ardnt, Jen Leo and Chris Christensen.) but this one is a full on 40 minute interview with Heather Cowper from www.HeatherOnHertravels.com
We pretty much talk about everything related to making travel videos and it might just be something you are interested in especially if you are just new to the idea of making your own travel videos. I hope you enjoy it and thanks again to Heather for the interview!
Happy Favorite Film Friday! Each Friday I try to bring you an awesome travel video, either one of my own or an amazing one found somewhere on the interwebs and this week I’ve brought you a fantastic new video.
In keeping with the popular video series on the internet these days “Shit Girls Say” and all of the other videos that have since followed after it I bring you “Shit Travel Bloggers Say”. I hope you enjoy it and don’t forget to follow me on Twitter and LIKE my Facebook fan page.
I’m always looking for great videos to share so if you think you have one that is particularly awesome send it my way by either mentioning it in the comments or sending me an email to: cailinoneil (@) travelyourself.ca
Starting last December a few of my travel videos have been featured on the Canadian travel TV channel Travel + Escape’s website www.TravelandEscape.ca
This has been a great way to get a different audience’s eye’s on my work and I would love for you to check out the videos and posts on their site. Also a comment here or there and a 5 star rating would make me a very happy Travel Video Blogger.
Last week when I was writing my “goals for 2012” post on www.CailinTravels.com the other day I was thinking about something that I had always wanted to do – visit Christmas Island off the coast of Australia and see the red crab migration. Then I looked further into it and realized that that takes place at the beginning of January… right about now. Of course it does because that is when it is summer time there, so I guess that won’t be happening this year.
Even though I don’t love crabs (afraid of them attacking me and such) I have always been mesmerized by this migration through different NatGeo-esque videos I have seen about it online and on TV. Sadly just this week before the migration started a cargo ship docked at the Island started sinking, then due to swells broke in two spilling oil and phosphate fertilizer. The crabs were already in danger from the yellow crazy ant introduced to the island and now this oil slick won’t be that great for them. The crabs have persevered however and the baby crabs started coming out of the ocean this week. Check out this awesome video shot by Christmas Island Parks Australia.
Maybe I’ll make it there next year. Happy Favorite Film Friday! ~Cailin
It’s been approximately 2 and 1/2 years since I started this crazy adventure of www.TravelYourself.ca and my own personal attempt at creating my own Travel Tv series and I predict that 2012 will be the best year yet.
If all goes according to plan in the next month I will not only be revealing a new logo for Travel Yourself but also a full redesign of the site. I’m finally looking to work with sponsors (If thats you please contact me! cailinoneil (@) travelyourself.ca) and will be creating / producing more travel videos than ever.
Expect more “Cities in a Minute” videos, collaboration videos with other travel video makers and hopefully another Nomading Film Festivalnominated video… but lets not count my chickens before they are hatched. Wow… that is an odd saying… however I am pretty good at jinxing myself so maybe I should stop writing…
If you haven’t seen my post on Matador Network yet on the top 11 travel videos that rocked 2011 go check it out and follow up with Part 1 and Part 2 to that post. Yes I had so many options I just put every great video into a post . Also to date 5 of my videos have been featured on the revamped Canadian travel channel “Travel + Escape” check them out HERE, I would love your support.
My first post of 2012! I have BIG DREAMS for 2012, I am looking forward to an exciting year and I hope you are too. Travel Yourself will be rolling out with a site re-design and new logo soon along with (fingers crossed) many other things!
Today’s Favorite Film Friday video was shared with me a few days ago and is quickly becoming viral with 88,000+ views by the time of posting this on Vimeo and even more than that on YouTube. Even big twitter accounts like Vanity Fair have tweeted it. This is truly an inspiration and I think a fantastic video to kick of 2012 and get your butt in gear towards reaching all of your awesome travel goals.
Created by Kien Lam who after quitting his job last year traveled the world visiting 17 countries capturing all of the amazing places he came across. Another awesome thing about this video (well for at least travel video geeks like me) is that the music in this video is original music written just for this video by the creators brother!!

Here is to a great 2012!! Please share your travel plans for 2012 in the comments below.
I definitely had a hard time going through all of the great travel videos made in 2011 so I have squeezed them all into three posts… two on Travel Yourself and one on the Matador Network. As I said before 2011 was a great year for travel videos and I am so excited that more and more people are getting into it. I think travel videos are such a great way to learn about a destination but to also inspire me to travel more and visit places and do things I never had heard of or thought about doing before.
1. This video has definitely inspired me and I hope to now take this trip myself in 2012. In 2011 Michael Hodson, Jeannie Mark and Nora Dunn participated in the UltimateTrainChallenge and this video features day 1 of their 6 day trip on the trans Manchurian railway.
This post is continued own from my original post that I wrote on Matador Network. I have been making travel videos for a few years now and I am quite active in the Travel Video blogging world through this site, a Facebook Travel Video group I moderate and more. I really love the travel blogging and travel video blogging community so this post and my post on Matador focus not on the viral travel videos of the year but it more focuses on the best content from people who love travel video blogging just as much as I do. In my Matador post I was only able to share 11 videos but there are many more to be shared so please find the rest below in no particular order.
Let me know if you think there was a video I missed. I hope you enjoy them all.

1. I just learned about Duane Parera of ResetLiveGrow.com when doing research for these posts and I loved this video of his! He traveled the world and made it a goal to find a common thing in everything place he visited. That common thing just so happened to be Coco Cola. I don’t think he was sponsored by them but if I were him I’d be contacting them ASAP!
