The view over looking the property from the dining room in the main building
Before visiting Rwanda my number one bucket list item to see was of course the gorillas but I was also pretty excited to stay at the Nyungwe Forest Lodge. About five years previous to my trip a few other friends had visited Rwanda and took a similar trip as well and had stayed there and I still remembered its beauty from their descriptions. The main building at Nyungwe Forest Lodge
Located in the south western corner of Rwanda at the edge of the Nyungwe Forest National Park this beautiful resort is also uniquely located in the middle of the Gisakura tea plantation. The entire property is covered in tea leaves/plants/bushes and is extremely lush and green.
A suite with a view into the bathroom above the bed
Delicious fish and chips for lunch
The property features 24 rooms all with views into the rainforest. There is also an infinity pool, a spa, a tea room and a lovely dining room with delicious meals prepared every day. There are walking tours into the National Park available from the hotel and if you are lucky you might even see various types of monkeys swinging in the nearby trees and maybe even a chimpanzee. Nearby you can also go on a waterfall walk and trek to find chimpanzees, it is recommended to be quite fit however to attempt either.
Welcome fruit and caipirinhas on arrival
A beautiful view for breakfast
Learning about the different teas grown on the property and how to drink them
Getting a demonstration on how the tea leaves are picked
One of my favourite pictures of the trip. I was so excited to see how this was done!
I was beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to stay here for two nights and I used every minute of my time there to fully enjoy it. I even had the chance to take part in a tea ceremony, learning everything about the tea on the property from seeing how they pick it to learning about how it is processed and how it should be served.
