The Zamora Estate Hotel in San Jose, Costa Rica was by far one of my favorite places that I stayed in Costa Rica. From the minute we arrived we were welcomed with a warm greeting by the owner Roman and his two friendly dogs Luna and Scooby. Our stay was booked by LatitudesAdventure.com and I had known ahead of time that they were good friends with the owners, but what I didn’t expect was to be treated like a good friend as well.
Currently the Zamora Estate Hotel has 4 bungalows with plans to expand and is a popular place for weddings and various functions. They are busy year round literally all from word of mouth without a dollar spent on advertising, and for good reason.
The Zamora Estate Hotel sits on a large piece of land that has been in their family for over 100 years and we were given a grand tour. Before turning it into a small hotel this is where Roman grew many flowers for his tropical flower business and many still grow on the property today. There is a small vineyard and bamboo forest. A nice property for a stroll. There is also a pool and larger building where the owners live, and there is a lounge, and dining area, where food is served often cooked by Roman’s wife Ana, it was definitely the best food that I had on my entire trip.
A delicious gourmet lunched made by Ana.
One of the neatest things was that every night at dusk hundreds of Egrets flew onto the property to nest for the night in the trees over their pond which you can view happening from the eating area. The property is also known as being a great birding area with over 130 bird species documented being spotted there.
Egrets begin to roost for the night on the property.
If you have just one night in San Jose at the beginning or end of your trip or you plan on staying in the city longer and are looking for a place to relax and some great food then I definitely recommend visiting the Zamora Estate Hotel.
