The Alphen Boutique Hotel is just a short drive from downtown Cape Town in the suburb of Constantia. One of the oldest suburbs in the city, it is a popular destination for wine enthusiasts with many wine farms, centuries-old wine estates, and vineyards nearby and in the surrounding Constantia Valley area. The area is popular with tourists and locals and people following its wine route taking day trips to taste the various wines of the area or staying a few days to drink it all in at one of the popular boutique hotels like the Alphen.
A view of the pool from The Rose Bar
The property is made up of three classical heritage manor houses, with 19 five star suites. On the 11.5 acres of land there is also five meeting rooms, a pool, spa, beautiful gardens, a cafe & bakery, outdoor bar and lounge area and first class restaurant.
I just went into La Belle Cafe & Bakery to take a look… I saw this cupcake and couldn’t say no.
While staying there I only spent a night however I wish I could of stayed two or three or perhaps a whole week. I enjoyed the La Belle Cafe & Bakery for a cupcake snack that drew me in the minute I saw it and for a fantastic breakfast the next morning. I didn’t get to enjoy the pool or spa but I did have several drinks at The Rose Bar and enjoyed a great meal at the 5 Rooms Restaurant.
By far one of the coolest things about the hotel was the way it smelled. I have never said that about a place that I have stayed in before. Every time I walked into my room it smelled like fresh peaches. They put a scent in the air ducts or something and it smelled sooooo damn good. It was pretty cool and unique. I guess it would suck if you didn’t like the smell of peaches though, hmmm.
My room also had a claw foot tub that came with a Butler menu where you can order various different types of relaxing bubble baths. After dinner I came back to my room to find rose petals spread everywhere with a hot bath drawn and burning incense. Now if only I hadn’t been staying there solo…
