While visiting the Italian city of Brindisi in the province of Puglia last year I spent a few nights at a nearby farmhouse in Ostuni called “Masseria Il Frantoio“. A family run property near the seaside which sits upon acres and acres of ancient olive groves.
The courtyard of Masseria Il Frantoio by day.
At nightime the courtyard at the Masseria Il Frantoio is transformed into a casual dinning area.
They like to be known as a family home with the comforts of a luxury resort and from what I saw that was definitely true. My small single room included its own full bathroom with all of the essentials and was decorated with Italian charm. The grounds were beautiful and full of gorgeous trees and plants with many different seating areas to enjoy the sun and your favourite book.
My single room at the Masseria Il Frantoio
There was staff around all day long to take care of you, and to grab you a drink or a snack. They also do daily olive oil tastings of the olive oil made on property from their very own olive trees as well as giving daily tours in an old antique car through the olive groves.
My favourite part about the whole experience however of course seeing how this is Italy was the food. With a menu based on slow food that changes daily, and everything is cooked on property fresh by one of the owners. To. Die. For.
Green beans fricassee in a basket of sheeps cheese
Soft goats cheese with saffron pears and pears compote
Rustic pitta with spring onions and olives like apple
Lamb in shape with wild poppy leaves and potato like straw
Good thing I only stayed at the Masseria a couple nights otherwise that might of needed to roll me out of there. If you are looking for a rustic truly Italian getaway then make sure you definitely check out the Masseria Il Frantoio on your travels. You can get there easily by train (arrange a pick up with the Masseria from the train station) or easily get there by rental car.

Special thanks to the Masseria Il Frantoio for hosting my stay however all views and opinions expressed are my own.
