When I travel I like to meet locals, talk with them, learn from them and pretend to be one. There is nothing I love more then being in a foreign city trying to blend in and someone comes up to me to ask for directions. While recently visiting Girona in Costa Brava, Catalonia I had the opportunity to get even deeper into being a local than ever before.
Thanks to the Visit Costa Brava tourism board I spent 3 days and 2 nights exploring Girona and the province of Girones. I did everything from milking a cow,
to practicing with Castellers,
eating and cooking amazing food,
river kayaking and more.
It was a nice way to see how life is in Girona and I liked it a lot. Especially the food! To see more from my trip watch the video above.
Do you enjoy trying to become a local as you travel? Tell me about your experiences in the comments.

May 10, 2013 at 12:36 pmAwesome video, Cailin! And good job on drinking from the porron – I worked on a vineyard up in the Pyrenees last summer and managed to perfect the technique but it is really hard! Apparently the trick is to start and stop quickly – I had a lovely bunch of old dudes from the village giving me tips!!

March 11, 2013 at 12:44 pmCailin, This is such an inspiring video! I’ve been on the road for a month and am seeing how much richer my experience could be. Did you hook up with all those experiences through the Travel board? What a blast!
