As a travel blogger and vlogger I enjoy capturing my travels with the written word and through videos. As I travel more and more each year I have good times and bad, there are places I fall in love with and others that I never wish to visit again. From my travels however the most common question I get is “Where was your favorite place?” And never is there just one answer for me, however if I had a whole year to visit all of my favorite places and to experience my favorite festivals in a certain place, eat my favorite food in another, visit one place at certain times of the year, etc., that question might just be a little easier to answer and that is where this idea has come from.
Sticking with current idea of travel memes I’ve come up with “My Perfect year of travel”. Breaking down a year into days, months and/or seasons “My Perfect year of travel” is made up of places that I have visited and places I wish to go to if I had the money and time for a perfect year of travel. Who knows, maybe there is only one place that you would choose for the whole year? Or just two? Perhaps 12 or more? I want to hear what your perfect year of travel would be like too. Not only do I think it’s a fun post to write but to all the other bloggers I bet it would be something fun and useful for your readers to read as well.
After you write your “My perfect year of travel” just like all of the other memes nominate 3 other bloggers that you think might like doing this too. Hopefully you will link to my site www.travelyourself.ca with the above explanation of what the “My perfect year of travel” meme is all about and tweet your post to me @travelyourself . I will create a whole master list with a link to everyone’s posts for everyone to see. That’s it! No links to a big company, just little ol’ me. Have fun with it and I can’t wait to see everyone’s perfect year of travel! Don’t wait to get tagged by someone else, start yours own now!
Here is my perfect year of travel:
Summertime in Nova Scotia with friends.
My perfect year of travel would actually start in July where I would spend most of the time at my cottage at home in Nova Scotia, Canada. Long summer days along the ocean, full of road trips, bonfires, swimming, sailing, BBQs, and drinks on patios with great friends.
For August even though the heat might be a little more than intense I would choose to spend it in Spain again like in 2009 when I was there in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Buñol filming the first episode of Travel Yourself and taking in the La Tomatina festival. I would definitely love to do that again, also La Tomatina is a perfect way to get rid of some frustrations by chucking a tomato or two at fellow travellers.
For September and October I would stay around Europe taking the train through France from Nice to Paris stopping at numerous vineyards along the way , eating my body weight in glorious cheese and baguettes (cliche I know). Then I would most likely head to the UK for the crisp fall to begin, I would hang out with friends in London and take the train to Cardiff, Wales perhaps stopping near Stonehenge along the way as I still have yet to see it. In Wales I would rent a car and explore the countryside with all of the beautiful leaves changing colours and would rent my own Castle to stay in.
After Wales I would take the train to Scotland stopping in Manchester on the way for a few nights out on the town, then continue on to Edinburgh. In Edinburgh I would rent an apartment into November and take over night trips to the rest of the country determined to find the Lochness monster, explore the highlands and more.
For the end of November and beginning of December I would want to visit Germany and other European countries like Austria and Switzerland purely for the Christmas Markets and Gluwhein all the time hoping that it doesn’t get too cold. For Christmas time I would either return home or meet my family somewhere warm for the Holidays.
For a few years now I have dreamed of being in Sydney, Australia for New Years Eve, celebrating with an awesome view of the harbour and bridge either from a great roof top or from a private yacht in the water. I would spend the rest of January laying on the shores of Bondi and Manly with my SPF 60+ being safe but getting a tan and if it gets to hot I would head over to windy Wellington in New Zealand to hang out and live like a local. However someday I would also like to visit India in January and celebrate the Holi festival of colours.
I would wish to spend February in Fiji, drinking kava and living in a village eating as much indo Fijian food as possible.
At the end of February I would leave Fiji and head to Iceland in time to celebrate Beer Day in Iceland. Although this is a colder time of the year to visit Iceland, Beer Day sounds pretty epic. Back in the early 1900’s all alcohol was banned but slowly wine was allowed and then liquor, however beer wasn’t allowed to be drank in Iceland again until 1989. Now on that day each year the Icelandic celebrate like no other drinking on average 340,000 cans of beer on that day which is a lot considering the population is only 318,000 people and I doubt everyone is taking a drink. Sounds like a good time to be there for me especially since I love Iceland as you can see from my video.
After a couple weeks in Iceland in my perfect year of travel I might want to then head to warmer climates again, choosing either Puerto Rico, Mexico or Hawaii…. or why not just visit all three places for the rest of March and April. In Puerto Rico, I would drink many Piña Coladas while getting some needed beach time, in Mexico I might finally learn to scuba dive and spend lots of time on the water and in Hawaii where I have yet to visit I would hike some Volcanoes (bucket list!), sail around all of the islands, enjoy some awesome food and (cliche) learn to Hula.
My perfect year of travel would end with May and June and this is when I would want to do one of the craziest items on my bucket list of life and that is to pin a map at a wall and throw darts at it selecting my next destination, show up an airport and take the next flight.
Where would you go on your perfect year of travel?

August 9, 2012 at 10:54 amThanks for the tag girl. I love this idea. I can’t wait to see what I come up with for our perfect year of travel. I love that you started at the cottage. That is such a great Canadian tradition and I’d start there too….if I had one:) You’ve been to so many places that we haven’t been to yet like Iceland, Sydney and Puerto Rico. They must be awesome if they’re in your perfect year of travel so they’ve definitely shot to the top of our list too! Cheers. Deb
